Why does everyone say thunderhead keep is hard?
I mean you just kill stuff. I just beat it after both of our monks and a warrior left the game. It was me (ranger) two Ele's and two Necro's. I just dont see how its hard. You just kill everything that comes in.

yeah yeah...
the mission is faily difficult and any number of things can go wrong. I have tried many times and finally finished it last night for the first time. Some of you are just better at it then the rest of us.

Its mainly just the ammount of dumbasses you get in your group If you get a group that knows how to heal, do damage to 1 target, and watch their agro circles, then you are set.

It's mainly in the tactics that people use. I had one group with my Echo Nuker where we were short one warrior, and got through it on the first run, doing the bonus too, with all the hectic fighting.
Basically, you just have to have good teamwork and coordination to get through it on the first run or within 3 runs.

Best and Simplest tactic:
Once you get to fort at the end, everyone get on the King. Have a warrior on each stair leading up to where the kind is and just let the warrior take the agro while the monks heal, nukers nuke etc.
Simple.

I think the hardest part of this mission is when you get either of the Monk bosses while defending the fortress. They can sometimes be a pain in the butt to kill esspecially if you don't have any interrupts. Over all though it is not what I would call hard to complete mission I would rate this mission moderate but if you do the bonus I would raise it more towards difficult.

Simple reason people find it hard: Some idiot lied to everyone in that outpost and said spliting the team at the two doors leading in was a good idea.
Its not.
For a PUG atleast. What happens 100% of the time is the group at 1 door is too slow or is overwhelmed - then its over.

Gross incompetence? That's usually the problem.

people think it's hard because they aren't using the henchman.
henchman > pugs for thk.

the only hard part for my group (of henchies) was the perfected armor
its like a bladed aaxte with its 3hit kills and has a lot of life since the henchies are the best damage dealers

There's a combination of two things that make it difficult. (1) The Jade/Mursaat boss mid-way through the hold-out, particularly the monk and/or warrior boss. (2)PUGs. They feel the need to all focus on that one boss, which can take a while to kill, while the rest of the mobs come in and kill you. The "boss last" rule still applies. Another "secret" is to take a mesmer along in your party, one that knows what they're doing. They can pretty much shutdown, or even kill those bosses while the rest of the party focuses on the minor enemies. So ThK isn't meant to be that hard, it just takes a bit more planning and cooperation between members.

Yet another "secret" is to bring a stance tank with you. Why a stance tank, you ask? Welll...
...Generally all groups want to do one of two things - Split and defend the gates (not smart), or defend the stairs (much easier). Bringing a stance tank trivializes the entire mission once you get to part two, simply because...wait for it...you guessed it, they can hold a torch. It's just like SF and FoW - hold the torch, baddies attack you, everyone wastes the baddies virtually problem-free. It just makes me shake my head when people want to split up the group to defend the doors...

Prolly not smart with superrandom groups, but I did the mission this way in a PUG with someone more experienced keeping the group in order and telling what to do. Not a single mob got past the gates.

Ive played THK a total of 3 times, with 2 characters. Always with a PUG. Its not hard, the only reason I lost the one is that we had an underpowered group and attempted bonus.
I find the trick is to get in a well balanced group. Most PUGs I see are like 4 W/* 1 monk and 3 rangers, or 1 W/* and 7 Casters. Get in a team with a varied player base. It also helps if you have atleast one person smart enough to use the catapults effectively. You should barely have to fight some of the groups because they spend so much time in the target areas. This is espcially true with the last group, the one made up of White mantle and Mursaat.
Sometimes Jalis moves away. STAY WITH JALIS. When I did it last, Jalis moved all the wayto one of the gates. While this would seem like a bad thing, it meant that the enemies from the other gate never got to him, and the ones for his gate never mattered because they were wasted by the Cats.
Bosses last.

Alot of you people need to give others a break. Just because they slip up and do something wrong doesn't necessarily make them an idiot...

done it with hench on all 6 professions, with the aid of 1-3 friends (generally 1) - it is NOT hard if you stay by the king and take out jade armours first (caster pwnererisers)
